Vince Carter wants to be first loser

New Jersey Nets swingman Vince Carter wants to be the first loser.

Carter told reporters Saturday night that "I want to get to ninth." Since the top eight teams make the playoffs, the only thing getting to ninth does is give you pride and a lower possibility of getting a higher lottery pick.

The Nets are two games out of ninth with two games remaining. So unless the Nets win their final two and the Bobcats and Pacers lose their final two games, the Nets will finish 11th (or worse).

But Nets coach Lawrence Frank says that Carter doesn't change when the going gets tough.
"A lot of people sign up and love it when it's good," Lawrence Frank said. "Vince has embraced this situation; he's been able to take the good with the bad. His character has shown throughout and that's what captains do. You have to take the good with the bad. Just because the water's a little choppy doesn't mean you get out of the boat."
With two years left on his contract at $34 million, the Nets are stuck with Carter. Carter is averaging 20.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.

The only three players to average 20 ppg, 5 rpg and 5 apg are Dwayne Wade, LeBron James and Chris Paul. Kobe Bryant is 0.1 apg below that mark.
